Silicon Valley to Pittsburgh is six to eight hours by plane. Giftyy started there, with one family spread across six states and two continents, and one question: how do you show up for someone when you can't be in the room?
I'm in grad school in Silicon Valley. My wife, Ayesha, is in Pittsburgh. The rest of our family is spread across North Carolina, Maryland, Florida and Texas, and back home in Africa, where I'm from.
Birthdays are the easy part. The hard part is everything in between. When Ayesha has a rough day at work, or finally lands something she's been chasing for months, I want to be there. Not with a text. With something real, the moment it matters.
My friends and family have always called me the one who brings people together. Distance made that hard, even for me.
So I built Giftyy. First, so I could keep showing up for my own family. Then, so everyone, everywhere, could show up for theirs.
